Matei Ioachimescu is one of the most renowned Romanian flutists. He is praised by audiences and music critics for his “adventurous and enchanting” performances.
 
He performs regularly on the international stage as a soloist or in his own chamber music projects, interpreting baroque, contemporary and cross-over repertoire, in concert halls such as Konzerthaus Wien, Suntory Hall, Conservatorio Santa Cecilia, Budapest Music Center or Ateneul Roman.
 
Matei´s debut CD “Lumiére” (Quartz Media, 2014) with the pianist Catalina Butcaru includes music by french fin de siècle composers, received highest critical acclaim. “… (the artists) bring the lights of Paris closer to the listener in an exceptional recording distinguished by refined and original interpretations” (Petra Gherasim, musicologist)
 
Matei Ioachimescu holds the title “Ambassador of Integration”, awarded to him by the Austrian Secretary of State for his engagement in numerous artistic projects of great importance for the intercultural exchange.

DOINA ROTARU, COMPOSER

Matei is also an avid pedagogue, organising and teaching masterclasses and workshops across Austria, Poland, Croatia, Hungary, Romania. He is a jury member of “Lira de Aur” International Music Competition in Romania and International Music Competition in Varazdin, Croatia.
 
Matei graduated from the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Professor Barbara Gisler-Hase. His is a winner of numerous competitions and grants like Jeunesse Musicales International Music Competition Bucharest, Thyl-Dürr Scholarship or Yehudi Menuhin Foundation grant. 

In 2020 he was appointed professor in Timişoara at the „West University of Timişoara”.
 
Matei Ioachimescu plays on a 9K Muramatsu flute with 24K Tomasi custom made head joint.
